In late November of 2017, Kiani returned home from visiting her dad with an unsettling story.
She said that she had been playing with her step-cousins in one of the bedrooms when she looked up to see a woman standing in the closet.
She described the woman as being in solid form, with foggy eyes (like those of a corpse). She wore a white nightdress, and her black hair hung straight and long past her waist.
As if this wasn’t disturbing enough on its own, Kiani also described how the woman’s head hung loose on her shoulders from an elongated neck (presumably broken and stretched from a hanging).
“It was so creepy, Mommy!” she told me, her eyes wide. “She was looking right at me too!”
“Were you wearing your periwinkle amulet?”
“Yes! Why didn’t it work?”
I was thoughtful for a minute.
From our experience with the herb, negative spirits could still be seen at a distance, but not one had been able to get closer than about thirty feet.
I asked her to describe the distance between her and the deceased woman, and I estimated it to be about fourteen feet.
I knew that spirits often required quite a bit of energy to manifest. What if the woman had drawn strength from the large group of loud, energetic children? What if this energy had been more than enough, therefore enabling her to get as close as she did?
I told Kiani my theory.
She pursed her lips in consideration. “I think you’re right,” she admitted. “My cousins are super hyper.”
I laughed and then hugged her.
“I’m so sorry, honey. That must have been scary for you.”
“It was!”
“How’d you handle it, though?” I asked her. I wondered if she had remembered and used some of the techniques I taught her. “Did you ignore her or pray about it?”
“No, she was hard to ignore. I prayed about it in my head and then imagined white light coming from my body. She left.”
I hugged her again.
“Wow! Kiani! I am so proud of you! You handled that like a pro!”
She grinned at me.
“Yeah, I guess I did,” came the reply.
